Serge Mouille Lampadaire
Serge Mouille (1922-1988) was an iconic French lighting designer, and his “Black Shapes” collection still looks slightly futuristic today. It is hard to imagine what an impact this had when it was released in 1952.
There were only about 30 original pieces made, but this design is still made under license by Editions Serge Mouille to the same standards and using the same techniques as the original. It has also spawned many imitations, many, by the way, of highly dubious quality, despite some resemblance to the original.
With three delicate-looking, but surprisingly strong, legs and arms, in painted black steel and aluminium, it has brass ball joints, which enable the arms to pivot in many directions. Mouille was inspired by nature, and there is something life-like about this piece, despite its other-wordly appearance.
